SQMD
Side Quest My Deck
What does your deck do?
Your decks do more than win or lose.
They develop patterns, tell stories, and reveal strengths and weaknesses over time.
SQMD helps you track how your deck actually behaves — game by game, across its entire life.
Track deck performance over time
SQMD is built around a simple idea:
Every deck does something.
Instead of treating games as isolated outcomes, SQMD lets you observe how a deck performs across real play. Each game becomes a data point. Over time, patterns emerge — consistency, volatility, strengths, and blind spots that are easy to miss in the moment.
This isn’t about optimizing for a single win.
It’s about understanding how a deck performs when you actually play it.
Commander is where stories happen
Multiplayer Commander games are intentionally complex.
Pod size changes. Threat perception shifts. Political decisions matter.
You can pilot a deck well, make the right calls — and still finish third.
SQMD is designed with Commander (EDH) in mind: - Track games across different pod sizes - Record finishing position without reducing everything to win/loss - Capture outcomes that don’t appear on a scoreboard - Measure consistency, not just spikes
This is especially useful for:
- Novelty and low-bracket decks
- Interactive or political builds
- Long-term tuning and experimentation
A single deck, recorded across many games.
Side Quests define what your deck does
Each deck in SQMD has Side Quests — the specific things that deck is trying to do.
Side Quests are fully customizable and come in three forms:
- Numeric — counts, totals, tallies
- Binary — yes / no outcomes
- Textual — notes, observations, context
You might track:
- Kills, triggers, or key interactions
- Mana issues or setup turns
- Whether a plan succeeded
- Anything that defines how this deck plays
Side Quests make your goals explicit — and measurable.
Define Side Quests per deck, then log them in seconds after each game.
See patterns emerge
As you log games, SQMD reveals trends that are difficult to see game by game.
Explore:
- Performance over time
- Normalized finishing position across different pod sizes
- Side Quest progress from game to game
The goal isn’t optimization for its own sake.
It’s clarity—understanding how your deck actually performs in practice.
Performance signals designed for multiplayer play.
Achievements as milestones
SQMD includes a built-in achievement system that marks meaningful moments in a deck’s journey.
Achievements reflect:
- Activity and longevity
- Performance thresholds
- Progress toward Side Quest goals
They aren’t random badges.
They’re milestones that help you recognize when a deck has changed, matured, or found its role.
Progress that reflects real play — not checklists.
Beyond Commander
While SQMD is designed with EDH first, it isn’t locked to any single format.
Because Side Quests are defined per deck, the same system adapts naturally to:
- Competitive formats
- Casual 60-card decks
- Experimental or homebrew environments
Different formats ask different questions.
SQMD lets you decide which ones matter.
